Good & Cormier assists people and organizations facing
significant legal challenges. The firm is devoted to the defense of
criminal cases and to civil cases that can be as important to the client
and to the protection of civil liberties as prevailing in a criminal
case would be. Our priority in white collar cases has been in preventing
prosecution of our clients, in part, through the use of our credibility
and experience in prevailing after trials and appeals.
The firm’s civil cases involve civil rights, media, tax, and computer
law, as well as securities, bank, currency transaction, export control,
telecommunications and pharmaceutical and medical device regulation. The
firm is currently engaged in cutting edge First Amendment and Due
Process of Law litigation challenging bans and restrictions imposed by
securities laws and regulators on advertising by issuers of securities.
We have also been in the forefront in protecting the First Amendment and
Due Process rights of students and faculty in colleges and universities.
The firm has decades of extensive experience protecting clients and the
Bill of Rights in the most challenging circumstances. Partners Andrew
Good and Phil Cormier are supported in this ever-important mission by
Harvey Silverglate, who
is of counsel to the firm, paralegals Ellen Rheaume, Betsy Rose and
Joshua Good, firm administrator Suzanne Hill, and Maurie Fox-Warren,
their accountant.
The firm has a low caseload, chooses its cases with care, and handles
each case with considerable intensity, avoiding the problem of "been
there, done that." For many of our clients, the challenge of litigation
often appears overwhelming (particularly at the outset): the adversary
can seem overpowering, the laws and courts can seem bewildering and
unfair, and the uncertainty and high stakes can be very stressful.
Success is built on persistent effort as well as clear and sometimes
quick thinking in the face of adversity; strategic creativity and
resourcefulness in presenting the law and the facts; and mindfulness of
the thoughts and feelings of clients, co-defendants, adversaries, jurors
and judges.
We view the defense of criminal cases, and the handling of civil
liberties matters, as well as the writing of books and articles derived
from our experiences, to be our contribution to the protection of
liberty in this country. We also have a good time doing what we do.
News and Updates: Due to scheduling difficulties, the upcoming law firm reunion has been postponed until further notice. The federal government has announced it will not prosecute Good & Cormier's client in the Boston Scientific case. Read about the case and our past work in the cases section.
